Welcome to the website of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities. This site contains information about the organisation of the VNG, its function in local government in the Netherlands and its international activities. Municipalities in the Netherlands need expert support in the forming of their opinions, development of knowledge and innovation. United in the VNG Dutch municipalities have more influence than individually. Their association protects their interests, provides products and services adapted to their needs and provides a joint platform for communication.

In 1993 VNG established VNG International. This division of VNG is committed to strengthening democratic local government worldwide. It manages, on a yearly basis, some 50-60 international projects and it supports the international activities of the members of VNG by providing services, representing their interests and facilitating the exchange of information.

Especially for the international visitors of this site, we also provide a global overview of local government in the Netherlands and the possibility to link through to more, or more in-depth, information, for instance information provided by the individual municipalities.

The information contained on this site is specifically intended for visitors in the following categories: (associated) municipal and regional organisations worldwide, international sponsors, scientists, consultants, training providers and foreign journalists.
